Land acquisition of JSW Steel plant at Patna Kendujhar people opposed

"Patna: A large steel plant is being set up in the Patna tehsil area of Kendujhar district by the JSW company. While the administration has started preparing for land acquisition, the local residents have strongly opposed it. The Jindal Resistance Forum, formed by the villagers who will be affected, has warned that they will not give up their land easily. Today, a protest and demonstration are being held in front of the Patna tehsil office against the plant."

"A steel plant is proposed to be set up on land in 18 villages under Patna tehsil, including Chemana, Jamunapasi, Kodkhamana, Barudipasi, Baliapasi, Rengalbeda, Dhanurjaypur, Baradanga, Angika, Chilida, Padmakesharpur, Kimidapasi, Dharuapada, Nua Khamana, Raikala, Nua Gaon, Godipokhari, and Bhringarajpasi. The IDCO has issued a notice for land acquisition, and objections can be filed within 15 days. However, the notice has sparked strong reactions, and the Jindal Resistance Forum, led by affected villagers, has vowed to resist the project.

Thousands of people from the 18 villages gathered at the Anandeshwar Shiva temple in Patna and staged a massive protest in front of the Patna tehsil office. The villagers have declared that they will not give up their land, even if it means sacrificing their lives. The Jindal Resistance Forum has demanded that the government follow the Forest Rights Act of 2006, provide pattas to land occupants, and cancel the MoU with the company.

The forum has submitted a memorandum to the Patna Tahasildar, demanding action on their demands. The forum is led by Raghunath Das, Ghanshyam Mohanty, and Benudhar Sardar."
